In recent era of constructional practices, sensor-based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is Standard LEDs widely utilized and considered as a trustworthy Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) technique in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Material Science, and Aerospace Engineering. It allows the decision-makers frequently adopt smart materials to evaluate the structural condition and, if necessary, employ the information generated by SHM to focus on specific regions for inspection. The integration of piezoelectric (PZT) materials for the evaluation and monitoring of structures is a recent and promising advancement in Civil Engineering infrastructure.PZT materials are used effectively in SHM systems due to their simplicity and robustness.
The electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique, which employs piezoelectric materials, has been widely used to assess structural response at various stages of SHM.The present SMOKE ACC study presents a comprehensive review of NDT &E tools, with integration of SHM techniques, facilities available for modern building. This paper also highlights the challenges and opportunities for piezo impedance based SHM from an extensive review of the relevant literature.Further, this study extended for the effective evaluation of multisensing piezoelectric impedance technique, specifically in the context of large engineering infrastructure and their health monitoring.
